A Clearing Touch
Reiki had been an extraordinary therapy for me after experiencing the death of my mother and a divorce. That first Reiki treatment was an unforgettably beautiful experience. It was there I began to walk the path with this healing modality. I felt lighter in my body and mind on more consistent bases and a noticeable shift energetically. Reiki energy works offered the mental and emotional clearings I needed at the time to create more space in myself. Over time these clearings offered opportunities to better observe my old emotional and mental blocks and limiting patterns when they arose instead of becoming lost within them. From here, naturally I began to shift old ways into new ways of being and communicating. Reiki paved a way for me to relax into life and re-align to more connection and wholeness with myself and others.
This is a part of my personal story with Reiki.
No matter if your introduction to Reiki is for simple relaxation or deep healing work. It is a true art of healing through hands.
What is Reiki?
A healing touch. Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that is translated to “life force energy” or Universal Life Energy. It focuses on our energetic bodies. Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive form of energy healing that is offered by the practitioner “laying on hands” or hands hovering over the body in order to administer healing through energy. The practitioner places their hands on or above certain regions of the body, and becomes an open channel for life force energy to flow into you.
Why Reiki and how can it help me?
Reiki as a healing practice offers a wonderful opportunity to clear energy blocks, rebalance the energetic body and give space for more of your own energy to flow freely within you. Reiki has proven to help reduce stress, anxiety and fatigue, increase relaxation, improve sleep, focus and memory, re-align your balance of mind, body and spirit, and create space mentally. What one experiences after a Reiki treatment may vary slightly from person to person. However, most recipients usually share an overall feeling of well-being, clarity, and more balanced functioning on a physical, mental and/or emotional level. The progressive benefits of Reiki are best experienced through multiple sessions. Three to four sessions is a traditional recommendation and gives you time to reflect on all that you are receiving– however one session in itself can also offer a healing experience. Reiki as an alternative medicine practice doesn’t address the symptom or the condition directly in the way conventional medicine does; rather, the energy goes to address the source of the problem to balance your system and bring you back to a greater sense of balance within. Reiki focuses on the person and not the symptom, therefore it can be helpful for you no matter what your life looks like, how your body is doing, or how you feel and think. You may come in with different symptoms which are simply signs that balance needs to be found again.
What will happen during my Reiki session?
I begin the session by explaining the physical process and you have the opportunity to share any specific needs you may have. As the recipient you will remain fully clothed and receive Reiki healing on a treatment bed and/or lounge chair. My hands remain in a stationary position gently on or slightly above your body through several positions from head to toe. It is always your choice of comfort whether you prefer my offering of Reiki with hands on or off. There is no manipulation of your skin. Receiving Reiki is a lovely passive experience where you do not have to try to relax. Instead you allow the Reiki to relax you. Your state will shift naturally as the session proceeds. Meanwhile feel free to rest, enjoy the music, observe your breath or the sensations of the energy healing.
What will I feel?
The experience of a Reiki treatment can vary. A Reiki treatment often creates a sense of comfort, calm and peace. As the recipient you may feel a warm tingling sensation where my hands are placed, gentle waves of subtle pulsations flowing through your body, see colors, or you may feel little in particular except a general sense of relaxation. You may experience a release of suppressed emotions through tears or laughter, which are all natural occurrences. While these are indications that energy is shifting within you, I encourage recipients to release attachment to what one feels or sees during the experience– if anything at all. By attaching to specific interpretations on your experience of stimulation, one may obstruct the free flow of Reiki energy. Reiki then becomes a beautiful opportunity to let go, openly receive the treatment process and allow the energy to flow freely. This understanding in itself might be the healing that you require.
